About Lighthouse Lactation

Hey mama, I'm Sammy.

Welcome to the Lighthouse Lactation family!

I am an IBCLC, RN & mother of 2.

My passion is providing excellent lactation support- caring for mothers as a whole (physically, emotionally, mentally); I have years of experience on a L&D floor, & in the NICU.

My heart is to help families navigate the learning curve of breastfeeding, coming alongside to equip with resources & confidence, aligning with specific breastfeeding goals- all with the added convenience of providing in-home care! (And no, don't change out of your pajamas or clean your house for me- I will come as you are!).

I serve families within the Treasure Valley, Idaho.

As I was dreaming & planning for this business, an image of a lighthouse came to mind (strange, I know, as we are  land-locked up here in Idaho). Sometimes breastfeeding feels "stormy" & intimidating - you may have question/concerns with no idea where to start.

I hope to be a light that guides you to a place of confidence & smooth sailing.

Lighthouse Lactation Consulting, LLC provides thorough Prenatal Breastfeeding Education, compassionate Postpartum & Follow-Up Lactation Care whenever needed, for as long as you need- simply reach out to schedule.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) significantly improved access to lactation care by requiring most health insurance plans to cover breastfeeding support, counseling, and equipment without cost-sharing. This includes prenatal and postnatal services provided by trained professionals, such as lactation consultants, and access to breast pumps. These provisions aim to support breastfeeding as part of maternal and infant health, removing financial barriers and ensuring consistent care before and after childbirth. The number of covered visits can vary depending on individual needs and the recommendations of healthcare providers. Some insurance plans may have specific limits; for example, certain Aetna plans cover up to six lactation consultations per 12-month period, combining both in-network and out-of-network care.

If you would like to submit a claim to your insurance company, please request a SuperBill (an invoice will be sent to the email on file after each appointment if self-pay is desired).

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at lighthouselactation@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Many insurance plans do cover lactation consultant visits, especially under the Affordable Care Act, which requires coverage for breastfeeding support as a preventive service. However, coverage can vary depending on your provider and your plan. It's a good idea to contact your insurance company directly to ask about specific benefits, approved providers, and any documentation they may require. I am also happy to help guide you through the process if you have questions.

As of May 2025, Lighthouse Lactation Consulting has partnered with The Lactation Network to make lactation care more accessible to all OR self pay is available at any time & I am happy to provide a SuperBill for insurance claims, as needed.

Anytime! Whether you're expecting, just gave birth or weeks into feeding, planning to adopt a baby, a lactation consultant can support you at any stage. If you have questions or concerns—or just want reassurance—you don’t have to wait. I am here to help whenever you need it.

A lactation consultant is a healthcare professional who specializes in supporting parents through the breastfeeding journey. They provide expert guidance on everything from helping a baby latch properly, to managing milk supply, addressing pain or discomfort, and navigating challenges like tongue-tie, pumping, or feeding multiples.

Whether you’re just starting out or facing unexpected obstacles, a lactation consultant offers personalized care tailored to your goals and needs. Their role is not only to offer clinical support, but also to provide encouragement and reassurance—helping you feel confident and supported every step of the way.
